外国から来られたお客様に、日本を案内したことはありますか？純和風なものを英語で説明するって、結構難しいですよね(ToT)
このコーナーでは、"Introducing Japan"というシリーズで何回かに分けて、日本を英語で紹介する際に役立つ単語をご紹介していきます。
まずは、日本に初めて来られた方が非常に興味を示されるのは、なんといっても和食でしょう。次の食材を英語にしてみてください！
1. 味噌
2. 豆腐
3. 昆布
4. 蒟蒻
5. 漬物
さていかがでしょう？まさか漢字も読めないということはないでしょうね～。欧米でも大都市にはチャイナタウンがあったりして、日本の食材は比較的簡単に手に入ります。豆腐などはそのままTofuでも通じる場合も多いですよ。
でも、"How do you make Tofu?"なんて聞かれると、なかなか説明できないかもしれませんね。最近では、外国人向けの「手作り豆腐キット」みたいなものも販売されているので、一度試してみてはどうでしょう？
